in the parlour

In the Parlour was a performance research project by hancock & kelly live, in conjunction with Angel Row Gallery, Nottingham.

Tattooing, a medium that has its western roots in the workign class, the seafarer, and the prostitute, was considered as a political aganecy that marks both individuals and communities.

In an environment for parlance, a dialogue opened up between the spaces of the domestic parlour and the tattoo parlour.

In the Parlour was the research phase of hancock & kelly live's performance Tattoo.

the way of all flesh

The purpose of structure is delay
Eventually, the weight falls,
strain is released.
Years, decades, centuries later
the event occurs.
From Structures by Anna Rae Jonas

The way of all flesh
was a durational installation performed by Richard Hancock and Veenus Vortex, exploring questions of physical, psychological, and phenomenological construction.

Throughout the performance the body was woven anew. Old patterns were repeated, performed and undone. A new architecture was imposed. What remained was replaced and re-ordered.

with held breath

With Held Breath is the rush of air through an open window. It is the first kiss of love. It is the last gasp of desire. It is the pillow between your teeth at night. It is the moment just before. It is the fleeting chance of something more. It is the body's last stand. It is the death rattle. It is the vain hope that one day, one day...

With Held Breath is a melancholic meditation on the moments that we can't control or afford, neglect or afront. It is a sequence of crashes, of new beginnings and of old endings. It is the dance hall sinking into the sea...

With Held Breath is a 45-minute performance for theatre spaces, comprising elements of live action, video projection and text-based delivery.

The audience are taken on a melancholic journey of highly evocative visual and textual images, ranging from the performers’ first memories of love and loss, to the Challenger space shuttle explosion of 1986.

This highly personal performance is accompanied by a recorded soundtrack of string-pulling songs and explosive images.

glissement

Glissement is a collaborative work of video installation by artists Richard Hancock & Traci Kelly.

The notion of collaboration is not one which merely surrounds the production of the work, but one which embodies it; dealing with issues of language, identity, and sexuality through physical acts of transference/transgression. These processes become physically embodied through the mingling of saliva, and a blurring of the boundaries between a definitive self and other.

Glissement is a two-screen video installation.

It was exhibited at eXpo as part of the NOW festival in Nottingham and at Fresh Art in London, in 2002.
